Hey folks! I am actually writing this post from my iPod touch, gotta love technology. On other, more important news, I think I will “renovating” my blog to prepare for the podcast I will be creating with a good friend of mine, @nickrobin . On that note, please dont expect any posts in the next few days due to this massive overhaul. Everything should be back up and running during the week, thanks.
Hey everyone! Lately Ive been thinking, why do people read blogs? And why do they take the time to read what exactly you write word for word? I know for a fact that I would prefer just bulleted main points about the given topic unless it was a rant or something descriptive. So, from now on when I talk about tech news, all I am going to do is bullets, thus, making the posts shorter, sweeter, and more to the point. Let me know if you want me to go back tot he old way of posting or not via email or twitter! Thanks!
Hey guys. I think I am going to cut a little short today because I have to work tonight. As of 2/22/2010, twitter has officially hit it’s 50 million tweets per day mark. As scary as this is I attached a picture of a graph displaying this accomplishment. Impressed? Terrified? Let me know on twitter or feel free to shoot me an email!
Hey! As of yesterday the actual hacker behind the google hacking has been discovered. No name has been made public but as told by gizmodo, the hacker was a “freelance security consultant” straight out of China. The way he hacked google was by using a security hole in internet explorer 6, that’s right, 6! So the fact he lives in China and the fact the Chinese government had so called “special access” to his work really doesn’t help get China out of blame for this one. To read the story straight from gizmodo click this link. What do you think about this story? What do you think the end result will be? Let me know via email or twitter!
Hey folks! Today, while browsing though my rss feed, I can across this story from engadget. Apparently by 2012, if the world doesn’t end (hopefully it won’t), 400 pre-schools in South Korea will be equipped with robot teachers. That’s right everyone, the age of robots are upon us. It is said that these robot teachers won’t actually run the class but provide assistance in lecturing and may also be a way for the children/students to communicate with their family’s at home through a simulated human. So I actually think this is a great idea and wish this would be rolled out in schools here in the US. *cough* text in class *cough* To read the story from engadget click here. Let me know your take on it! Good or bad idea?! Email me!
Hey Folks. I ran across this interview of Kevin Rose and a guy by the name of Dr.Weil, who discuss health issues of geeks. The whole video is a solid 30 minutes long so I wont say much and let you watch, enjoy!
Hey everyone! While reading some recent news I came across the latest updates in the topic about the high school in Philadelphia that used a students webcam to “spy” on him from home. It turns out, after the FBI became involved, that the school has done this 42 times over the past 2 years! The FBI is looking to what exactly happened and is trying to figure out whether or not any wiretapping or computer-privacy laws were broken. In the schools defense, they say they only did this to retrieve lost or stolen laptops, but do you remember the photo the school used against one of the students? This one piece of evidence shows that maybe the school was up to something a tad shady. Check this link for the original post from Gizmodo. So once again I ask, was this the right or wrong thing for the school to do? What do you think the end result will be? Email me at dwoftim@gmail.com or @ me on twitter @dwoftim
Hey folks. While reading through some articles on the internet, i stumbled across this post from gizmodo and techspot about a high school in Philadelphia that used the built in laptop’s webcam to spy on students while they are at home. Yes, they are school issued laptops, but does that mean what you do at home is your schools business? The administration of the high school told the parents of these students when the issue was brought to light that, “It was a glitch.” Sadly, when you pull a student out of class to punish them for that they did at home, and USE PHOTO EVIDENCE of what they did, you cant honestly say it was a glitch. Now, one of the more techy students new it would be a smart idea to question the IT guy at their high school. The IT “genius” told the students “people logged out when an application using the camera was on.” He also managed to somehow say that the school could look through the webcam but it would break the law, I on the other hand, do believe this law is the 5th amendment of the constitution of the United States. So that’s what happened in a nutshell, you can read the full story here, on Boing Boing. So do you think its ok for a school to use its own laptops to spy on you from home? Send me an email or @ me on twitter with your opinion!
