School Uses Webcams To Spy On Students?!

Hey folks. While reading through some articles on the internet, i stumbled across this post from gizmodo and techspot about a high school in Philadelphia that used the built in laptop’s webcam to spy on students while they are at home. Yes, they are school issued laptops, but does that mean what you do at home is your schools business? The administration of the high school told the parents of these students when the issue was brought to light that, “It was a glitch.” Sadly, when you pull a student out of class to punish them for that they did at home, and USE PHOTO EVIDENCE of what they did, you cant honestly say it was a glitch. Now, one of the more techy students new it would be a smart idea to question the IT guy at their high school. The IT “genius” told the students “people logged out when an application using the camera was on.” He also managed to somehow say that the school could look through the webcam but it would break the law, I on the other hand, do believe this law is the 5th amendment of the constitution of the United States. So that’s what happened in a nutshell, you can read the full story here, on Boing Boing. So do you think its ok for a school to use its own laptops to spy on you from home?
